Who's Jesus and why should I care? You should care because you're a screw-up. Please don't take it the wrong way; it's not just you. You see we're all screw-ups. This includes you, me, our friends, our parents, teachers, preachers and the pope! So what does that mean? That means no matter how bad your life is, you can be sure that eternity will be worse. So what's the good news? The good news is that even though we're screw-ups and God has every reason in the world to give up on us, he hasn't. In fact, he has done everything that he can to save us from an eternity without him. He gave us Jesus to be a bridge between himself and us. All we have to do is cross that bridge by believing in Jesus. The only thing God can't do, is choose for us. He created us with the freedom of choice and we have to choose for ourselves. Will you take him up on his offer? How does Jesus do this? Imagine yourself standing in a courtroom because you were skating downtown, and this time the city is pressing charges. You are clearly guilty and the fine that you have to pay is $1 million dollars. There is no way you can pay that kind of fine and you are about to go to prison until it can be paid in full. Then imagine the judge, getting down from his chair, taking off his robe, walking over to stand beside you and paying the $1 million fine. Then you watch him walk back over to his chair, put on his robe, and he sits back down and says " your fine has been paid in full, you are free to go." This is exactly what God has done for you. You are guilty of breaking God's laws and the penalty for that offence is hell. But, when Jesus died on the cross, he took your screw-ups on himself and was punished for them. Your screw-ups have been marked "paid in full", all you have to do is believe in Jesus for this payment to take effect. Why should I believe in him? Your life will never be satisfying without God. Ask Kurt Cobain if fame and money made him happy. Ask Chris Farley if drugs helped with his depression. You see, every person has this empty spot in his life that only God can fill. We try and fill our emptiness with skating, money, sex, drugs, and "things". Know this, there is nothing except for God that will fill this void. Also, not too long from now, you will be lying next to everyone else in a big field 6 feet under ground. What will matter then? Will your skating abilities matter? Will your girlfriend matter? No, nothing is going to matter except the answer to this one question - Does God know you? You stand now at a fork in the road. Look around. You have heard the message of Jesus. Will you believe? What road are you going to take? You have to choose a path. You can click on the next link or go out and skate and totally forget about this "Jesus". But don't be fooled, if you choose this route when you die and stand in front of God, you will hear the words "I never knew you, Away from me" and you will be assigned a place with the unforgiven. Please know this: God does not send people to hell; they choose to go there when they reject Jesus. You can get on your knees and tell God you want to know him. Tell him you've screwed up and you want to change. Tell him you're not sure about this whole Jesus thing. Tell him you're sick of the empty life you have been living. You want to know Jesus. This kind of honest prayer will not go unanswered. The Bible tells us that if we repent (turn from our sin) and are baptized (physically enacted prayer where you officially surrender your life to God in water) in the name of Jesus, we will be forgiven for our sins and we will receive God's Holy Spirit. If you choose #1 we hope that someday you will change your mind before you have to face the consequences of your choice. If you choose #2 there are some things that you need to know:You need to get involved with some other Christians! Being a Christian is not a solo deal. Give us a call and we will pray for you and help you find a group of believers like yourself. There are a lot of churches that have skate sessions and equipment. If the church does not have one you can just start one! There is a huge celebration in heaven when just one sinner (that's you and me) turns from darkness and believes in Jesus. You have just made an enemy and his name is Satan (A.K.A. - Devil, Lucifer, Beast, Deceiver). He wants you back in his gang, bound for hell and he will do anything to try and make you forget about Jesus. As long as you hold on to Jesus, the Devil will not even have a chance. Sure, you may be tested and have some "tough times", but if you are focused, you will come through okay. The world does not understand. That's okay, if they mocked Jesus, who is perfect, and killed him, don't expect much better. Your reward is coming. If we don't hear from you on this side, we'll see you at the party when this old world and its pains are just a memory. |
